Nowadays, it is very important to file taxes from corporations to small businesses to any type of employers. There are several forms promulgated by the Internal Revenue Service to record income that is earned by an employee. 1099 forms are used by independent contractors or freelancers to record the income that they receive from different organizations or businesses.

What you will see on a 1099 MISC form is the income earned by the contractor, though there will be no deductions for state or federal income taxes like in usual W-2 forms issued to some employees. There will also be no deductions for medical and social security costs or deferred compensation. This is because the recipient of the 1099 form is not an actual employee of the organization or business. The freelancers will be the ones to make their own tax deductions and will be the ones to forward it to the IRS. The form 1099 is very helpful to the IRS as it helps them track the income of freelance workers as well.
Freelancers who usually work on a per job basis and are not usually considered regular employees are freelance writers, novelists, actors, or other creative artists. Hiring freelancers has been more and more popular as it helps businesses cut down costs as they do not have to pay for things such as health or life insurance or contribute to plans such as retirement plans. Once the job is done by an independent contractor or freelancer, the business or organization can simply issue them with a 1099 form.
